When You Realize Your Niche Is Too Narrow: Don’t Be Afraid To Make A Change

It's okay to change directionThis is an update to my Super Affiliate Handbook review, where I’m building an affiliate site based on what I’m learning.

I don’t mind changing my mind. What I don’t like is when I ignored information and intuition in making the initial decision. It wastes time to ignore what was there in the first place, simply because I didn’t want to acknowledge it.

I’m frustrated that I wasted some time.

Don’t get me wrong. There is always something to learn from taking action, yet it’s always better to change direction when you get clear indications that it’s needed. And if I’m honest, I got those clear indications in the very beginning.

With that said and after much internal debate, I’m scrapping my original affiliate niche site and going with another idea.  Here’s why.

I picked a niche lacking current opportunity.

First, I tried to convince myself that the niche topic I chose has more short term viability than it does. The angle I was approaching the market with leaves me 3 programs to recommend and that’s if I get approved for all three.  That’s just not enough to build on – it’s too narrow.

The new niche I’ve chosen has long term viability. It is definitely a growing market.  I’m still going to build a basic site around the first idea. Add a few Squidoo lenses or Hubpages for it and let it mature, along with the market. I’ll keep my eye on it and as the market grows, and it will, I’ll be ready to take advantage of it.

The new idea, something I actually picked up from Tiffany Dow, meets every single criteria laid out in Super Affiliate Handbook. I’ve Minna-fied it, so I’ve got my own angle and can work it in a way that works for me.

I’ve already gone back and done the trending research as well as keyword research using the criteria as described in the handbook.

I have the domain name. I have set up the site. I’m working on the categories now. I’ll write the about page and first post, hopefully today and then we’ll be back on track with where I left off the review. I’m excited by this niche with it’s short term and long term potential and will update you on my progress.
