Friday Follow Through Week 6 – P&L’s, Time and BHAGs

It’s time for the Friday Saturday Follow Through Follow Up Video.

I cover:

Monthly Profit & Loss 1:07
Peek at my Grindstone Time Log 2:10
Reveal a BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal 7:01
Ask You – What Haven’t You Used Yet? 12:41

Monthly Profit & Loss Update

This month reveals a smaller profit than last month. I didn’t provide any services for the month.

There is still my own mental hump to get over with creating content and promoting my services.

Must do more of both consistently.

I did start a new review of a mindset and creativity product called Power Creativity System” from Paul Myers.

I’ve still got work to do to finish up the other review I’ve started and then there is the technology review according to the plan I worked on in December.

Well the best laid plans get updated as you go. :)

Time Reveals All Things. Can We Account For It?

One of the questions I want to answer by continuing the time log is, which of my activities is generating the profits I want?

I don’t just mean money profits either. I’m talking lifestyle, joy & happiness, health as well as money.

I can see many of my actions aren’t contributing to my goals directly. Many are contributing to my lifestyle profits tremendously.

I want to do more of those. I want to tighten up my actions when it comes to revenue, so I can create even more revenue, which allows me to leverage my time even better for higher lifestyle profits.

One of those things, as mentioned in the P&L update, is to do more with the services business.

Still it’s nice to easily see where I’ve actually spent my time and also correlate the results to revenue or lack thereof.

Making a BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal

There are two Author Ashe quotes which fit this BHAG.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

And

A wise person decides slowly, but abides by these decisions.

It’s been more than a month since I considered this idea.

After hearing again how Lynn Terry didn’t buy her first IM product until well after she was successfully supporting herself and her family and after reading something from another savvy marketer in Solomasterminds, I realized I haven’t been smart.

I’ve been desperate.

I’ve done fairly well in purchasing evergreen products but just haven’t used them to my advantage.

That hurts me emotionally, psychologically and financially. It hurts you too.

Are you floundering around plagued by an always shifting business focus and foundation?

I think I believed that if I wasn’t using the latest greatest newest tactic, widget or whatzidoodle, I was missing out.

Well I am missing out. Tactics, widgets and whatzidoodles come and go. Solid foundations last.

So with that said, you’ll have to watch the video to hear my actual BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal. Just about a minute of it and it starts at minute 8:41 if you aren’t into watching the entire video.

See this space in a year. :)

If nothing else, I can guarantee you I’ll still be here – well unless … nah we aren’t gonna think about that kind of finality.

That’s my week in perspective.

What About You?

What did yours look like? What do you have on your hard drive that you haven’t used? Are you spending your time wisely? Are you spending your money wisely as you work to grow your business?

It may just help someone else so share in the comments.

Okay I’m curious about something. I’ve done challenges where I tracked things before and the tracking itself ate up SO much time for me. How does yours work and do u tally ip the time u spend tracking time? Lol hope that made sense!

    • Minna says:

I thought I might need to track the time it takes to track. But with Grindstone2 I set the reminders instead. There are 3 little pop-ups on the far bottom right of my screen. One asks me if I want to be timing something, if I’m not. One asks me if what I’m timing is still what I’m doing and one reminds me to take a break. Then Grindstone2 also has a setting to monitor mouse/keyboard activity. If you’re away for the length of time you specify in the settings, it asks what you were doing and gives you some options.

So it takes a few seconds to start or change something and maybe a total of 30 seconds to a minute if I need to add a new task or a note to a task. I figure, out of the total time I’ve tracked, it’s less than 10 minutes or so a day that I’m doing the tracking tasks.

  2. Pretty cool about Grindstone2 Minna! Sounds like you’re making progress and still determined – even though it’s February when most folks give up on their goals. Good for you!

I’m off to the gym tomorrow. I’ve managed to keep up with my workout goal – except for the week when I was sick, but I even worked out consistently while visiting out-of-town friends.

I’m also working on a couple of knitting projects – currently working on hearts for Valentines Day. And I’m putting the final touches on my sales page. Not sure why it’s taking me so long!

Way to keep those goals in progress. Woot! This is the year I pick up knitting or something with my hands, as I really enjoyed darning a cute sweater I found that had a few holes.

  3. Bonnie Gean says:

It’s important to know where you’re leaking time so you can fix the gaps. I know all too well how hard it is to stay focused when so many things are banging down your door for attention.

Keep it up Minna. You’ll eventually get that passive income increased!

  4. Having looked at your time tracking system, I thought that that would have eaten up a lot of your time. Glad to see that it only takes a few minutes to complete.

I wish you luck with the ban on product shopping. That’s a tough one but I think you have the will to succeed. Here’s to a prosperous February.

    • Minna says:

      Yes, let February bring prosperity.

I’m glad the time tracking doesn’t take up much time as well or I probably wouldn’t do it.

And of course I propose my ban just as you release a WSO. ::facepalm::
